Thruport Signs Global Reseller For Its JBird Servlet Engine: Novosoft Wins Exclusive Distribution Rights For Advanced Web Server/Engine Platform

Alexandria, VA, August 12, 2002 -- Thruport Technologies, Inc. today announced an exclusive global agreement with Novosoft, an international offshore software developer and system integrator headquartered in Austin, TX, to distribute Thruport's JBird web server and Java servlet engine platform. Novosoft, a joint collaborator on the JBird kernel, will also take a lead role on product support and future releases. Thruport initially designed and built JBird in 1998 to enhance the performance and stability of its Linux-based application and managed hosting services. JBird supports HTTP/1.1, Apache, Microsoft IIS, virtual hosts, secure connections via JSSE, and XML/XSL/XSLT, and is bundled with its own web-based administration tools.

Thruport CTO, David Moser, commented that "Like many good technologies, JBird was borne out of necessity - the need for a highly-efficient and scalable servlet engine and web server that complements the growing Linux base market. We believe that JBird is a serious competitor to the likes of JRun and Resin, supporting the leading standards with the ease of administration required by today's IT engineers. Thruport and Novosoft have had a long working relationship on a variety of hosted application platforms and development projects, and we believe they are in an excellent position to exploit the technology through its global network of technology clients." Ivan Ogiganov, JBird product manager for Novosoft, has already obtained more than thirty CPU commitments for the servlet technology and is equally bullish on the technology. "We've been using JBird in our development projects for more than 18 months and have been in discussions with a number of corporate clients interested in JBird's performance across their entire operating environment." Novosoft will initially offer JBird for single server and clustered environments, starting at $400 per CPU.
